Why have civilizations elected to form governments? The primary reason if for safety and security, which translates to law and order. Law and order and safety and security are the primary responsibilities of government.
So why is it, that when we elect officials to protect us, they don't do due diligence. It seems as soon as they get into office, they are looking for ways to generate personal revenues for self, friends, and family.
What can we ask our officials to do first? How about eliminating or making street crimes nearly non-existent? A citizen should feel and be safe walking our streets and in their own home. City, state, county, and federal levels of government are responsible for this. Prosecutors are to follow the law; judges to ensure the correct laws were violated by the defendants; juries to recommend the appropriate sentencing and penalties.
Prosecutors who allow defendants to go back into society without any penalty, where they are free to repeat similar crimes of assault, theft, and property destruction, should be recalled. Keep in mind, the only persons required to protect the criminals when they are being prosecuted, are the defendant's lawyer. The judge, jury and prosecutor, represent the people, law and order, and the constitution.
Perhaps, if government does not provide basic safety, security, law, and order to its citizens, it has no value and should be dissolved.
